The angles in this clip show dangerous stereotypes as its a low angle which creates power and makes the person in the shot intimidating. Close ups were used to show the conflict stereotype between the white man and black man. These are reinforcing a negative stereotype. The white man was wearing a suit which makes him look powerful and the black man was wearing jeans, both of these were dark and black which determines danger as black is an bad colour. This reinforces the danger stereotype as later on the white (powerful) man gets chased into a corner by the black man wearing jeans. It was located in a dark factory which represents hazards, this is reinforcing the dangerous stereotype, which is also negative. The white man dressed in a suit (powerful) had more prominence. The sound used was a very fast pace which put the audience on edge which creates suspense. The music also reinforces the danger stereotype as it creates tension and builds up to something dangerous, as in the clip the man falls down off of a mesh bridge, this is negative. this is made to pity the white man as he is getting chased this portrays the other man as a negative stereotype

Hotel Babylon

Everyone employed are working class and shouldn't be there. Immigration has come

Disability - coming down the mountain

At the start of coming down the mountain, the camera pans around the able boys face whilest keeping an eye line shot, this shows that the boy could be obsessive in killing his brother which he used narrative dialogue to tell us. This can relate to the villain stereotype as he is thinking of killing his brother. This then reinforces the stereotype of villains as they are set out to kill. This is negstive as he shouldn't be killing his own brother. 

After the panning, they show the audience an old documentary of an ancient animal video in black and white which can interpret many things. It could be old to show that the brother still hasn't evolved yet, but then it can also be interoperated by the black and white being that the disabled is very simple (black and white) or can also be said that he hasn't evolved (black and white was around in olden days) this then reinforces the ugly & physically in cabled stereotype as he is incapable of many things. 

With the dialogue, David narrates his thoughts which shows that he wants to be the centre of attention because his brother is usually more important. This could then challenge the ugly stereotype as he is not physically ugly, he is mentally ugly as he is trying to win attention and power over this brother who is disabled. This is an negative stereotype as all brother should be treated equally whatever their disability. 

on the shot of the bedrooms, the abled brother has a clean & organised side which shows that he is mentally organised whereas the disabled brother has a messy and colourful side which shows that he has a messy state of mind this then reinforces the ugly stereotype as he is physically incapable of keeping his room organised like his brother. This is negative as it's unfair that he has a messy state of mind. 

 

Downtown Abbey

The location in this scene is considered to be an Abbey this is to show that the upperclass have money and wealth as they are living in a big house. This reinforces the typical stereotype for upper classes as they are known to have big houses. With the costumes, the upperclass are wearing suits or long dress with lots of colour whereas the servants are wearing plain black and white outfits to show they are plain and simple. this then reinforces the stereotype as upperclass have money therefore they have rich clothes (with colour) and the servants are in the working class which means they are not rich so they only wear plain and simple clothing. The colour in this scene shows that the upperclass are very dull, Although they may seem to have money and their clothes may have colour compared to the servants, the colours used are very dull. The colours include, Rich Reds and Purples, along with the typical gold and silver. This Challenges the stereotype of upperclass as you see them as wealthy so you see them as being colourful.

When the Lady Ship was bathing and the maid was in the same room, they were filmed in separate shots although they could easily be fitted into one shot having a conversation. this is to show that Upper and Working class shouldn't mix and do not deserve to be in the same shot.

Once Upon a Time in The West - Sound

Analysing the sound: 

Once upon a time in the west 

Ambience - the background sound in this opening would the wind, birds and the train. These sounds might come under foley as well but additionally they are ambient sounds 

Foley - the water dripping would be edited in along with the birds tweeting and the annoying fly to make it sound isolated 

Dialogue - There is no dialogue in this clip because they are waiting for an unknown reason 

Emotional realism - the dog crying could be portraying them, they could be crying inside 

Establishing sound - a sign from the railway station was swinging from the start of the clip to the end, it makes it sound isolated. There is no dialogue so no sound was reduced 

Sound motive - a character was clicking his knuckles This could be shown as a masculine sound

Dexter Edit

Dexter Final: 

This was my first shoot in a group round someones house, this gave us a chance to understand how the people in the group work and to find out if they are reliable. This task allowed us to show use the skills we have learnt throughout our other edits and put it to the test 

Falling Down

Falling Down

In the opening of this film, we used the same video but created the sound ourselves using sound given to us and sound available on Garage Band. I started off by using the deep breathing noise during the titles to introduce the audience to the character and how he is in a stuffy hot car. Eventually, as the camera turns and focuses on the outside of the car, the sound of the children and the cars engine gets louder. we used about 5-6 layers throughout as the breathing was still in the background just not as loud, along with the truck horn, police car, buzzing fly, cars engines, radio and noisy children.
It makes it a thriller based location because the sounds used creates mystery and suspense, because as a viewer you do not know what is going to happen, even towards the end of the clip, you still have no idea what is going to happen. All the layers of sound build up to create suspense and mystery. So when creating mine, i will need to deleted the sound from the camera and re make the sound myself so it doesn't include the outdoor noise of cars which can be unnecessary.

Paranoia

Paranoia Edit:

This edit is the first time we used the professional cameras. As you may be able to see, we managed to follow the rules and film from the correct angles but we never focused the camera, This can be used as one of our 'EBI - Even better if' for when we do our filming for the final task. Another EBI would be rule of thirds and depth of field. these two techniques both involve focusing on an object whilst distorting or bluring out another. As i have mentioned we never focused the camera therefore that technique was not used.

Some of our 'WWW - What went well' would be our camera, framing, angles and composition. We used these techniques throughout our filming to make the character in this video look paranoid. this involved making sure the camera was level and following instructions on the sheet of what angles to use. Using these techniques we managed to complete the task by creating suspense and mystery throughout. 

Match on Action

Match on Action: 

Editing a scene with various angles to save jump cutting and confusing the audience.

if you didn't use match on action it can confuse the views as the scene would not make sense eg. a personal walking down the stairs, you can jump cut by jumping the scene to various points down the stairs to make the sequence go faster but this confuses the audience as it looks like the viewer jumps down the stairs. To make it look more professional, we used match on action. Using the stair scene as an example, match on action involves the camera person to film the person walking down the stairs in various angles so when it is put together, the editor can use the various angles to make the sequence go faster but not confuse the audience. We done an example of match on action in the video above.

Why use it: it looks more professional than jump cutting.

Se7en Edit

My Se7en edit is the first edit me and my mentor completed using Final Cut. We completed the task by cropping images and videos provided to design an opening that creates suspense and mystery. As it was our first task using final cut, not everything is amazing and edited correctly. What we did managed to do was insert text to match the theme of the frame the text overlapped. We also managed to add a filter/effect over the whole sequence which was called 'Bad Film' so it created suspense and mystery. 

Identity - Review

Identity Review - Charlie Potton

Malcolm rivers is a psychotic killer awaiting execution. His Psychiatrist, Doctor Malick has discovered a journal belonging to rivers and written in the diary shows why rivers committed the murders. With this evidence coming forward, a new hearing takes place (on a stormy night) so that doctor Malick can try to spare rivers by showing the judge the new evidence. Meanwhile a group of strangers find themselves stranding in the Nevada desert by a remote motel. There is; Ed, a ex cop now a limo driver and his client Caroline, Timmy, his stepfather George and mother alice. Alice is seriously injured after Ed accidentally ran her over as she watched George change their flat tire. There is also Prostitute Paris who was at the motel and was the cause of Georges flat tire. Newly weds Lou and ginny and a police officer Rhodes (who was escorting a Prisoner) were also at the motel. The group then plan to stay the night at the motel but then they later find out they have a murderer living amongst them. Killing members one by one he leave behind the room keys starting with room 10 and counting down. 

At the hearing of Malcolm, The Journal revels that Malcolm suffers from dissociative identity disorder harbouring ten personalities. Malick brings forth one of Malcolm's personalities, Ed, (Who is the Ex Cop and Limo Driver at the Motel) which means the events occurring at the motel are occurring in Malcolm’s mind. Hearing the events that are happening at the motel, Malick informs the ed personality that he must find and kill the hostile personality to prevent Malcolm from being executed. At the motel, ed believes the personality of Rhodes (The police officer) is the murderer and sacrifices himself to kill Rhodes, this then leaves only Paris alive. 

When Malick tells the judge that the homicidal personality is dead. the judge decided to place Malcolm in a mental institution under Malick’s care. Malcolm is then driven to the institution but in his mind, Paris has driven to her home town in florida and during her journey she discovers the room 1 key. As she turns around she discovers a young boy named Timmy standing behind her. Timmy is the true homicidal personality and has caused all the deaths at the motel. Timmy then finishes the task by killing Paris.

Now driven by only the personality of Timmy. Malcolm strangles Malick and the transport van runs off the side of the road. 

This film I believe is a brilliant thriller film, it creates mystery and suspense by not knowing whats happening and only finding out the killer at the end. I like the fact they didn't make the killer predictable, for example in some films the killer is normally the prisoner or the bad guy, but in this film the killer is the little boy. I would defiantly rate this film at least a 4/5.
